Linked new iPad during set up to an iPhone with different Apple ID.

After linking the new iPad to the iPhone and running the set up I signed into Apple with the old Apple ID from the previous iPad that was dead.

Now the new iPad keeps asking to sign into the iPhone Apple ID. I have read on another thread that this happens whenever the apps update. I didn’t know that I could use multiple devices under one Apple ID. (Duh)

Am I better to change the new iPad Apple ID to the original phone Apple ID or reset the new iPad and start again under old iPad Apple ID and without linking to the iPhone?

They are my husbands devices and he doesn’t have a lot of apps or photos. I think one Apple ID might be the easiest way to go. Looking for the easiest route.

Appreciate any advice. Thanks

Purchased Apps are forever tied to the AppleID account from which they are purchased. To download or update an App, you must be signed-in to the Apple App Store with the correct AppleID. Presumably you have stopped using your original AppleID account - and have since used a different account with your iPad.

The best way to return to using the correct AppleID is to prepare the device as you would before giving away the device - as this ensures that you have properly reset the device and removed the Activation Lock associated with the current AppleID:

After doing so, you can setup the device as a new device - using the correct AppleID.

An AppleID account (now known as your Apple Account) is intended to be used for life - one Apple Account for all of your personal devices. Your AppleID is the account to which all your devices are associated - and all App, iCloud, Media and Subscribed Apple services are linked. Using the same AppleID allows you to pay-once - and share your Apps and subscriptions between all your devices.

Every User should have their own unique AppleID. What you shouldn't do is share a single AppleID between Users - such as between yourself and your husband. Should you wish to share purchased Apps and Apple Services/Subscriptions, you can do so using Apple's Family Sharing feature:
