Prevent Apple podcast app from automatically starting on the car radio with bluetooth connection

With the Apple podcast app completely off on my phone, not even running in the background (swept up), I get into my car with a bluetooth-only connection between iphone and car radio, and the podcast app automatically starts playing on the radio, e.g. resuming a paused podcast. There can be a lot of reasons for users to not want this, e.g. you get into your car with your boss and suddenly both of you are listening to a political podcast he does not not agree with!

It is rather standard for users to turn on entertainment apps before they are working, right, at least have that option?

So far Apple phone support has not found a solution for me, nor any account of why no solution is available, if that indeed is the case. So even when not playing in the background, the Apple podcast app is sending out a signal that my radio (all bluetooth enabled car radios?) responds to? Why are my phone's apps not under my on-off control? Very humbly asking....
