Mac Mini M4 Doesn’t Go in Sleep Mode

I had almost everything from Apple, except for my PC. However, I recently needed a new computer, so I decided to buy a Mac Mini M4. Since I’m new to Macs, I’m still learning how they work.

On my Windows PC, I could put it to sleep with all my tabs open, and everything would stay as it was when I resumed. However, when I try to do the same with my Mac Mini, my HP Omen monitor turns off, but I hear a loud pop from the Mac Mini, and then my monitor starts back up again. I’ve read on different forums that you need to close all your tabs beforehand.

My question is: Is there a way to keep all my tabs open and still put the Mac Mini into sleep mode or power it down properly when I’m finished?

Most experienced Mac users NEVER EVER use sleep, why it tends to be unreliable and can cause other issues.

To get the same net effect (preserve the display) simply type Option + Command + Eject and the display will turn off. To turn back on, tap the space bar.

Another option rather than using the keyboard is to change your settings by:

"Go to the Apple menu, select "System Settings", then scroll to "Lock Screen" in the side bar, select Lock Screen. Next, you can adjust the settings for "Turn display off on battery when inactive" and "Turn display off on power adapter when inactive" to set your desired inactivity time before the screen turns off. "

Personally I have my display to turn off after 3 minutes of no activity, been using this for 20+ years with zero problems!

Hello romy261!

Is there a way to keep all my tabs open and still put the Mac Mini into sleep mode or power it down properly when I’m finished?

There are a couple different ways to do this.

The first method is going to the Apple () menu at the top left of the screen and choose the “Sleep” action.

The way I do requires some setup, but not that much. I’ve seen it used by many Mac users including myself. To set up this feature, open System Settings and go to Desktop and Dock in the sidebar. Then, scroll to the bottom of the settings. Click the button at the bottom that says “Hot corners…” Then, select the corner you want to use, and choose the “Sleep” option. Now, whenever you want to put your Mac into sleep mode, simply move your mouse to that corner.

I hope this helps!

Your M4 could be waking up because of spurious Bluetooth signals.

If this is the case, you can disable BT by using the free app BlueSnooze.

BlueSnooze

This will stop BT devices waking your mini but it means BT mice or keyboards won't wake it.

You can get round this by using a wired mouse or keyboard or if you have a Magic Keyboard simply keep it plugged in permanently with the charging cable.

Alternatively you could wake it by giving a short press to the power button but don't strain yourself tilting the M4 for access!
