Can someone suggest the best solution to editing and joining clips?

So, I have found the "workaround" option which is exporting the file and having the clips "joined" in this fashion. But what is the proper way to join clips AND edit your video? What have I missed? Is there some design flaw in iMovie that no one wants to talk about? I'm talking about editing a single clip, removing unwanted footage, and using the "Join Clips" under the "Modify" tab.


How can I remove unwanted footage and not have this option greyed out and unable to use? Thanks for ANY suggestions.

iMac 24″, macOS 15.1

As you have found, iMovie does not have a feature for splitting a clip, editing the splits, and then joining them back together again. It is not a design flaw because there is rarely a need to physically join edited clips, as Keith Barkley points out. The unjoined side by side segments would seamlessly play through as if joined.


The Modify/Join Clips command applies only when one has split a clip, but not edited the splits. To join edited split segments back together again would require using the work around of exporting the segments together as one video, and then importing back into iMovie.
