Is Apple AI "junk" mail filtering useful?
Apparently Apple iCloud uses Junk mail filtering at the server level that uses an AI algorithm prioritizing choices made by other users.
Today I found email in my Junk folder that came from the federal government — a .gov address being classified as junk mail because other iCloud users are classifying it as junk is affecting where my email goes. There is no way for me to override this classification but to wait for an email to be misidentified and correct the problem. A solution creating a problem.
To be clear I don't have junk filtering running on my side. This was done by iCloud. You can find this evidence in the email header: X-Apple-Movetofolder-Junk
I called and spoke with a senior tech who confirmed there is nothing to be done but attempt to train the AI. I said that is not a battle I want to wage and that I shouldn't have to.
The only option is to create a rule on your machine that moves every mis-identified email into the inbox but since the AI will just keep sending it to Junk it's an eternal battle.
I sent feedback and so did the senior tech...
My only advice is to treat your junk email folder as an inbox.
