Can't use my old iPad in China

I have a very old iPad (2010, MB293LL) purchased from the US (or Europe), in perfect condition; instead of throwing it away, I brought it to China thinking about giving it to my Grandma to simply play with WeChat. However, after restoring it to factory settings, it encounters two main problems:

  1. Under 'Setting\ Safari', there are 3 searching engines: Google, Yahoo, and Bing ---- None of them seems to work in China ---- I did try Bing and the browser only displayed some very basic and useless contents
  2. I tried to log in with my Apple ID and even tried to sign up for a new Apple ID ---- it simply never worked ---- always showed 'can not connect to iTunes Store'

I have tried to search for solutions online but so far there has been no hope ---- for God's sake I only wanted to install WeChat for my Grandma to use a bigger screen than her cellphone.

To all the Apple experts in the community, should I give up further attempts or not? Frankly tell me it's a dead-end road without any solution.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The Chinese government blocks most Western search engines and may block other access to non-Chinese services as well. But as Nick suggested, that iPad is too old to support anything recent, and that includes WeChat which requires iOS or iPadOS 14 or later, and your iPad is far too old to support that. So it is indeed a dead-end road and it's only suitable for recycling.

Regards.
