Hi, I have always opened up Word documents I get from emails using Pages. But now I can't do that as Pages appears not to be recognised when I try "Open with". I have also downloaded the document and tried to open it that way - but no luck. Does anyone know what my problem is? Both my MacBook and Pages are up to date. Thanks

Sorry, I misread your original post. I have since sent myself a Word document created in MS Word as an Apple Mail attachment. I also happen to have Microsoft Office 2021 for Mac Home and Business installed.
When I right-click on that Word document attachment in the received email, here is what I see for the Open With menu:
Pages is not the default, but remains available on that menu. When I click Pages, the Word document opens and is translated into a Pages document.
Pages is no Word clone, so you cannot open, edit, and save a Word document in it.
You open the Word document with Pages and it will translate (if compatible) into a Pages .pages document. The Word document is unchanged and closed afterward. If you also happen to have MS Word installed, it may default to opening a Word document before Pages.
Thanks. My problem is that I have been able to use the "open with" from the drop down list so that it doesn't open in Word. This option has always worked but for some reason (and perhaps it is after I updated to the latest MacBook software?) this no longer is available to me.
Thanks. My problem is that I can't open a Word document like i used to - using Pages - by selecting "open with" from the drop down menu, as Pages is for some not recognised in the menu, even though I have it on the MacBook and I use it for my own documents.
