Gray pop-ups in the background

I have a 2020 MacBook Air M1 and there is sometimes a gray pop-up the size of the whole screen, but shows in the background. It just appears for not even a second and turns off, and then proceeds to repeat that a random number of times until it stops. Then from time to time the "glitch" comes back. To be honest I saw a post from 2018 that hard shut downing the laptop messes with the file system. I tried First Aid in Recovery Mode, but still no fix. If you have any ideas that do not include erasing the ssd, I'm open to try them.
