Choose what matches your TV’s native refresh rate, and/or what is normal for the typical content.

For NTSC countries, that would probably be 59.94 Hz. Some high end TVs may support both 59.94 and 60.00 Hz.

  • Your network TV shows would probably be encoded as 29.97 fps as half of 59.94 Hz (or 23.976 fps as close to 24 Hz).
  • YouTube content would often be 30.00 fps (as half of 60 Hz), per camera settings.
  • For a mismatch, 1 in 1000 frames would get repeated or omitted, which you probably wouldn’t notice, as the frames are already doubled most of the time.

For PAL countries, that would probably be 50 Hz (25 fps ×2).

If you select Reset Video Settings”, then Apple TV would default to what it can detect from the connected TV, which would probably be optimal for most users.
