How to recover deleted data after iPadOS update?

I installed the update, and it bricked my iPad. I tried to update it from iTunes, and I only clicked update, and it did a full system restore and deleted all my personal data. Does anyone know if that data is recoverable? There was no warning it would do this and now I'm out a lot of irreplaceable work.

Presumably you will have a pre-existing iCloud or iTunes backup of your iPad. With your backup, you can restore all your locally stored data to your iPad:

Restore all content to iPad from a backup - Apple Support

If you don't have a backup - and you have restored your iPad to factory settings using your computer - then all locally stored data will have been irreversibly erased from your iPad. That said, any data synchronised with iCloud will remain accessible after you have set-up your iPad with the same AppleID. Your iCloud data can also be accessed directly from any computer using a web browser:

If you value your data, always keep a backup of your irreplaceable/critical data.

While not resolving your immediate data loss problem, if iCloud backup is not viable, be aware that is possible to use a third-party App to automatically backup data/files (but not device settings) from your Apple devices to a variety of external storage options - including third-party Cloud services, external media devices and network storage. I highly recommend FileBrowser Professional by Stratospherix:
