My apple pay has always worked fine since the technology came out. All of the sudden when I initiate it at a store, the prompt “hold near reader” pops up at the register, but then nothing happens. Has happened at multiple stores. Is there a way to fix this?

You can schedule an appointment with Apple and they can run diagnostics on the NFC chip to determine if it is a hardware problem.

It is either going to be a problem with your device or the terminals that you have tried. Each terminal has a different location where the phone needs to be held before it is recognized, but I expect you know that since you have been doing it for a very long time.
