restarted my laptop and everything is gone and replaced with an old device

I restarted my laptop thinking it was a good idea because things were being slow and when restarting it also updated the software. When it turned back on all these old files from my previous laptop were all over my desktop, and I’ve managed to find some of my files by searching for them but they aren’t actually there, they need to be uploaded which makes it REALLY hard to locate things.

Help!! what has happened by doing this restart??? How do I get my laptop back
