Control remote screen with Screen Sharing in OS Sequoia

Need to remote into my parents' Mac Mini M1 running 15.1 from my MacBook Pro M3 also running 15.1. Before my parents updated to 15.1 from OS 14 (Sonoma), I was able to use Messages to request a screen share and there was no issues with controlling their systems.

However, when they updated to 15.1, I had to use FaceTime to request screen sharing and control. I was able to control one computer but was only able to see the screen of the second computer. "Allow Control" on that computer was selected and blue but I was unable to control (open folders, select anything, etc.)

Thoughts??

I've been opening the "Screen Sharing" app on my MBP and then selecting an existing connection (seems the history of my previous connections goes back to 2017). There is an option to add a new connection under the connection menu. When I do this, screen sharing works as previously (my parents have to accept the 'share screen' and then 'allow control'). I don't use either Messages or FaceTime any.
