Word for Mac - windows resize to full screen when iPad is on

Since downloading Sequoia, my Word for Mac windows (and some other types of window) automatically re-size to full screen whenever I have my iPad on. I have disable screen sharing between my iPad and Mac. I am not using the iPad as a second screen. I have seen the posts about disabling the options "Drag windows to screen edges to tile" and "Drag windows to menu bar to fill screen" in the settings; I have disabled these functions but it's still happening. When my iPad screen turns on, all my windows jump back into full screen and I have to resize them all. If the iPad screen goes black while I'm working, everything jumps back to full screen - including the documents I'm working on. It's unbelievably annoying and I can't figure out how to turn it off. Can anyone help?
