How to turn off automatic window resizing

I have been more than frustrated with MacOS Safari some some time after the last few recent updates - not sure how long ago, but well before the latest OS update (Mac OS 15.xx - Sequoia) Have looked and looked for answers to this question - but everything refers to a tablet or iPhone - plus are very dated. Found this one (same) question in the Apple Forum dated 2/8/2022, but no answer - now I have found the answer and hopefully it will help others.

The fix is simple - at least it has proven to be for me. I have two monitors connected to my Mac Studio - and have not tried this with one monitor - so not sure how they are affected - but this should work.

  • Open System Settings
  • Click on Desktop & Dock
  • Scroll down to "Windows" (right above the "Mission Control" block)
  • Turn "Off" (slider to the left) "Drag window to menu bar to fill screen"

Once I did this, Safari windows quit expanding and filling the monitor screen, forcing me to move screen lower to get it back to the original size.

Hope this helps.

Mac Studio, macOS 15.1
