Issues on Siri after updating to iOS 18.1 and adding Apple Intelligence

I recently upgraded my iOS and added Apple Intelligence on my 16 pro max.

Ever since then Siri has been given me all sorts of weird issues.

At times when I try to tell her to text someone while in the car connected to Bluetooth, she’ll tell me I have to unlock my iPhone first. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of hands free? I didn’t use to have to do this.

When I ask her to play music it gets weirder. She’ll either play the song, or she starts reading a Wikipedia type entry of the artist I just ask her to play. She’ll also say she can’t show me the results while I’m in the car…I don’t ask for results I asked for a song.

The other strange thing is which I’ve talked to Apple about is her response when I asked her to play Shinedown-A Symptom of Being Human…she thinks I’m in a medical related issue and tells me if it’s something serious to call medical services.

sometimes when i activate Siri she’ll not hear me even if i “scream” and just shut back off.

has anyone else experienced these issues?

In Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, do you have Allow Siri When Locked turned on? Also, check Settings > Focus and make sure you don't have Driving Focus enabled. Are you using Bluetooth or Apple CarPlay? If Bluetooth, make sure you go to Settings > Bluetooth > Tap your car and the little circle with an i in it and make sure Sync Contacts and All Contacts are checked.

I'm not having any issues texting with Siri since adding Apple Intelligence, when I drive.

Siri when locked is turned on. I’m not seeing a driving focus setting though? I’ll check the car part next time I’m in the car. I tend to use Bluetooth even though I like CarPlay more because I don’t want to keep plugging my phone in all the time and killing the battery faster.

When you plug it in to use CarPlay, it should charge your phone at the same time. That is one advantage of wired CarPlay, whereas wireless CarpLay is well wireless and will use the battery faster.
