Reduced web camera quality on M1 14 inch 2021 after updating to Sequoia 15.1

Hello,

I've recently updated my M1 2021 to Sequoia and have noticed that the quality of my web cam for FaceTime and Google Meet is significantly reduced. It is now grainy even in a well lit space. Is this the experience with others? Will there be an update that fixes this?

Thank you

Have you shut down and restarted more than once since your "update."

To trouble shoot further you can:

—A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

unplug all non-essential peripherals when testing

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

You can always try re-installing the macOS on top of your existing macOS

Thank you. Is it not called an 'update'? Upgrade then?

Have tried all of your suggestions, none seem to work. I've found that several others seem to report the same issue on mac rumours and reddit
Will also file a bug report.

Your words not mine: "I've recently updated my M1 2021 to Sequoia "

The original upgrade was Sequoia macOS 15.0 9/16/24

the point update 15.1 was 10/28/24

Verify your software is up to date…this would be a point update from your 15.1

The current stable release of Sequoia  including bug fixes,  security updates  is macOS 15.1.1 11/20/24
