iPad messaging with no cellular

I was able to text with Verizon Message+ on my iPad 7th Generation without my iPad having cell service (cell service is on my Android cell), just used the house Wi-Fi.

Verizon has canceled their Verizon Message+ and recommends Google Messages which is on my cell but that isn't an option on my iPad and Apple Messages doesn't work.

Any suggestions on what texting app will work on my iPad now?
