Audio message not working

I updated to iOS version 18.1 my audio messaging is not working. The microphone icon is there, but when I press on it, it does not record. All it does is turn on the the microphone for the keyboard and starts typing. I’ve reset it I’ve done all the sound settings, etc. so I’m not sure what to do. Any help out that would be appreciated.
