What is it that you're trying to accomplish? An iPad and a Mac don't "pair" per se, not like a Bluetooth device like headphones would, so we'll need to know what it is you wish to do. It will also help if you tell us what models of iPad and MacBook you have and what versions of operating system each is running.

That is not, and has never been supported.
It’s completely unnecessary.
Features like continuity, handoff, air drop, etc. don’t require ‘pairing’.
