Lost Downloads and Desktop folders. How can I fix? HELP

I have a new mac pro. I merged my old backup. I was cleaning up some files. In a new window with my favorites, I thought I'd delete what I thought were aliases including the downloads folder and the desktop folder. The desktop folder is still there but I can't access it. As for the downloads folder, the same error comes up. Also, if you look at the iCloud timer, it's stuck. How can I fix this? HELP!
