MacBook touch bar not working properly

I’ve come across a post about the MacBook touch bar (/ touchbar) not working properly after installing an app called Lock Down Browser. I faced the same issue and have found the solution just now, wanted to share it.

I restarted the touch bar through the activity monitor, rest the NVRAM/PRAM and the SMC, deleted the app and tried again as well and nothing seemed to work. The touch bar was still partially there and not really functioning as it usually did in different apps.

The solution: Go to settings > Keyboard > Touch bar settings > “Touch Bar shows” and set it to App Controls. Should go back to normal as it were before.

If the Expanded control strip is also shorter, press “Customize Control Strip”, open the expanded control strip and drag the default one down to your touch bar.
