Logic - sustain pedal not recording

I use an old Alexis switch with my Kontrol S88 mid controller for sustain, and it works fine, and today I recorded two midi tracks without incident, but on a third track, although the piano plug-in recorded, the sustain messages did not. I checked the pedal: fine. I closed that project and opened a new one and the sustain pedal worked fine in the new project. In the Logic track display I can actually SEE that the pedal is not recording, but as I tested this, sometimes, just for the first note of the region, the sustain recorded. Also it appears that when using the punch in function Logic did not record the complete punch in length. WTF? Am I out of memory? Do I need to increase a buffer? This is an M1 chip running Sonoma.
