Ipad and Iphone not working as remotes in Keynote

I have just tried to link either iPad or iPhone to MacBook to use as remotes for a Keynote and it goes through the link process then says "Looking for XXX MacBook Pro" for a long time then says cannot find.

Ipad is Pro 3rd gen, iPhone is 15 and MacBook is 6 months old. All are completely up to date.
