Why is my emoji keyboard blank after upgrading to iOS 18.1?

I recently upgraded to iOS 18.1 from iOS 17. I was briefly able to use emojis and saw the new larger keyboard with stickers included.

At some point the keyboard began displaying as blank. Emojis are still autosuggested when I type words but I cannot see any emojis or stickers in the emoji keyboard, including through the search function.

Other users have also reported this (eg i have the emoji keyboard installed but n… - Apple Community) is it a known issue please and is there any fix?

Force restart your phone to fix it.

Press and release vol up button then volume down then keep holding the power button.

Since updating to 18.x I've seen this in my Messages keyboard. I tried removing and adding emoji kb back with no change. Doesn't clear either, I thought it was a recent emoji that I used and would eventually clear out. Not the case. Not a big deal, but annoying.
