Apple Music and Android Auto

When playing Apple Music through Android Auto (from an Android phone - Samsung S22 - in a 2022 GMC Terrain), a song will play for a few seconds before going mute (although the status bar indicates it is still playing). Most of the time, if I tap the Pause button and then tap the Play button the song will come back on (although it has continued to play in the meantime - sort of like it was muted but not paused). I have not been able to find a trigger for the behavior. It appears random. Any suggestions?
