Can’t be added to group chat even though I am using imessage

I updated my phone recently and after I did for some reason it began to send texts in sms. I tried to fix this by leaving the gc then rejoining but then when my friends would try to add me back it would say they have to make a new gc.

I am able to text through iMessage just fine for all my other contact. I turned off sms and rcs messaging but still I can’t be added back without making a new gc.
