Location services not working on iPad Pro with iOS 18.1

Just noticed that after installing iOS 18.1 and enabling Apple Intelligence, my location services stopped working. Not sure at which step it happened, but now I can’t fix it. Checked settings multiple times, and everything looks enabled. Device iPad Pro 11 M4

Exactly the same happened for my iPad Pro M4 13 as well. Updated to 18.1 from 17.7.1, enabled Apple Intelligence and now location services are not working.

Factory reset didn't work.

Full system restore didn't work.

Another full system re-flash without restoring a backup didn't work as well.

Need some help.

Consider the functional differences between WiFi Only and WiFi+Cellular models of iPad. Aside from the obvious Cellular functionality, only WiFi+Cellular models include GNSS/GPS location capabilities - which may impact any Apps or features that require accurate and consistent location data, such as Mapping.

WiFi Only iPad models can only “infer” their location from a database lookup of neighbouring WiFi networks for which the geographic location is known, or the geographic location of your public IP address. For static applications in urban locations, where the location of IP public IP addresses and WiFi networks are known, an “inferred” location can be relatively accurate. However, in rural locations, or when using a Cellular/Satellite/VPN connection, location accuracy of an inferred location [if it works at all] may be very inaccurate.

Mine is a 256GB WiFi only model, same model as the author’s, and I have verified independently by using another WiFi only M4 iPad that the issue is reproducible. I have opened a feedback regarding it (FB15665218) with a sysdiagnose dump.

One of thing I noticed while investigating the device’s syslog output is that there appears to be a codesigning issue with the wifid daemon:

[corewifi] MISSING ENTITLEMENT, will not continue (pid=69 proc=aonsensed bundleID=com.apple.aonsensed codesignID=com.apple.aonsensed service=com.apple.private.corewifi-xpc req=GET COUNTRY CODE entitlements=[com.apple.private.corewifi.countrycode])

Given that like you said - WiFi only models do not have GPS modules and rely on WiFi to infer the current location, this might be related.

I have an iPad Pro 11-inch with M4, 256GB, WiFi. After updating from 17.5 to 18.1, I noticed that the location services have stopped working. I did not enable Apple Intelligence. I have tried restarting the device, resetting the settings, and various other troubleshooting methods, but nothing has resolved the issue.

All apps requiring location services, like Maps and Find My, are not functioning.
