Multiple instances of chrome in Privacy & Security - local network access

Since upgrading to 15.0 I get asked fairly regularly if I want chrome to have access to the local network. It now looks like every time I say yes, I get another copy added to the privacy an security settings.

Same issue here, now on 15.3.

A bunch of Chrome Icons with buttons.

Enabling/disabling makes no difference; I still can no longer connect to the local network in Chrome.

(I accidentally replied no, when Chrome asked for permission to connect to devices. Was confused about the question. But this can apparently not be undone now)

First hoped that 15.2 would fix it.

Then hoped 15.3 would.

This is getting a little old.

Turn the switch off on the last one or two and see if they clear off the list.

If those two clear off the list, do the same to all but the first one.

If that doesn't clear them off the list.

Control (right) click on the last one and see if Delete or Remove comes up.

If it does, then do that to all except for the first one.

All I can say is that Chrome is not even listed in my local network settings and yet the Chrome browser continues to function properly on my M1 Studio Max running Sequoia 15.1.1. I don get those prompts at all. Maybe turn off all the switches and the next time you get the prompt say no. See what happens.

What I do get that annoys the crap out of me is Youtube telling me my Safari browser is not secure and that I should switch to another browser. I wonder which browser Youtube wants me to switch to? Those low-lifes at Google, that’s all I can say.

You actually just reminded me about this, its been a couple weeks for me...........

I might have gotten one popup in the last........3 weeks?

Could be wrong but its definitely gone away to the point I completely forgot about it.

Only thing different ive done is related to apple music which I dont see how that would have anything to do with anything but it is apple and knowing their products, who knows man, maybe somehow that plays a trick on the os and then sends a faulty message to chrome, who knows, but I'd never put anything past apple.

Considering this mac im on right now almost was bricked outta the box and I was SOL with "customer support" regarding, tech support in general, forget a refund or a replacement, and I had to somehow miraculously fix this on my own, nothing would surprise me with these.

Seeing the same but with MS Edge. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the toggles are actually always functioning as expected either (eg I can have the permission set (and set and set and set....) for Edge to be able to access local network but it won't and I have to use Safari to access services in my local network.

Im not a computer wiz so I dont know what that terminal code does, but having just reset my laptop to factory, im willing to bet that this is just a temporary solution.

As this seems to be a chrome issue more than anything, seeing as how its still doing it on mine.

And hitting no dont allow, just turns off the ones already in your local network.

This problem is present with the Windows App on a computer I manage. We've uninstalled the app, which Local Network Privacy retains the instances in the window. One of the instances becomes named "Microsoft Remote Desktop" which is the former name of the Windows App.

The Windows App also doesn't work with one network. We've toggled the settings on and off. If I create a new profile on the Mac, the new profile works fine with the problematic network. If we connect to another network, the Windows App works correctly. Other machines can connect to the network without issue with the Windows App.

There needs to be a way to totally delete and reset the settings here. There are clearly bugs with how the apps are registered with the Local Network Privacy that doesn't remove them properly. There are bugs with how the macOS is retaining settings incorrectly no matter how many times you toggle them on or off.

I cannot believe this has not been fixed?!!

I don't care about the multiple Chrome buttons - as long as one of them will allow me to access my local network.

But I cannot access my local network in Chrome anymore.

I can only use Safari - which is not an acceptable option.

Every once in a while I get the Prompt "Allow access" which actually does give me access to the local network - but as soon as I install an update for Chrome I am back to square one, without access to my work environment on the local network.

I am not "constantly asked" if I will allow access, like I hear other users are.

Unfortunately - because that temporarily does solve the issue.

I have to wait for the prompt to happen. (it has been a few weeks now)

And I am getting extremely annoyed.

I tried the different solutions that other users are suggestions, uninstalling, safe mode and so on.

Which in some cases fixes the issue - but always temporarily.

Come one, already.

Please.

This is just one of multiple issues that I'm fighting right now. It seems that these are too many bugs like these for apple to devote much time to given the effort being put into the (relatively useless) AI integration. I wrote to Tim Cook suggesting the problems were feeding off each other and spiraling somewhat out of control. Rather than another major feature release I asked whether he'd consider a major release just focussed on bug fixes akin too the Mountain Lion release.

15.4 ... no change that I could see.

I'm going to put on hold purchase of an M4 MBP until Apple show some interest in fixing the bugs in their OS. It also seems that windows has come a long way since I last used it, and as I don't use an iPhone, iPhoto or iCloud I'm not really tied to the apple ecosystem. So maybe its time to explore a bit more in the Windows direction now the dreadful clippy and dog-assistant have gone.
