Pinned Images to a Mac Desktop

Is it possible to pin an image to my Mac desktop similar to how you might use a Post-It note? I often take photos of flyers or other documents that I only need for a short time to use as a reminder.

For example, our community is having its Fall Cleanup soon. I took a pic of the flyer we received in the mail. I'd like to "pin" it to my desktop for a visual reminder. I only need to keep this image for a short time.

If this feature isn't available, it would be nice if my Mac desktop supported partitioning a part of it for this purpose. Additional functionality for such a feature:

  • Displays each pin as an icon of the image/contents.
  • Enlarges and displays notes when a mouse hovers over it. Notes may include texts and/or hyperlinks.
  • Links to calendar events.
  • Supports time limits. The pin may be trashed or moved to a specific folder on a set date/time.

Simply save the photos in a folder on your Desktop, that is the most simple method. Call it what you want and if you want you can create folders within folders. For example, you could have the master folder on the Desktop called Post it Note photos, then if you want to organize them to find easily later you can name the subfolders by subject name. Something like:

Post it Note photos - Flowers - Azellias

When I'm worried about forgetting things that should be in my face I use the Calendar app to remind myself so good job on thinking of this work around.

Another suggestion is to look for third party apps in the Mac App Store to see if there is anything that may do what you want. And of course, suggest this to Apple as mentioned earlier by navigating to www.apple.com/feedback

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. While this is a possible workaround, it's not as useful for my needs. I would like to have something that's in my face; otherwise, I'll forget. I realize I can add things to my calendar or create notes or reminders, but I was hoping for something visual while I'm working on my computer. Placing items in yet another folder or folders would negate this.

I use widgets. Right-click on your desktop and go to Edit Widgets. Depending on the format of your document, there are a couple of options: a note, MS Word, Excel ,and Powerpoint, or even a photo. I have daily and weekly tasks that rotate each month at my work. I took a photo of the document and made a small photo widget of it for the top left side of my Desktop along with my calendar and my notes app. I am currently using macOS Sequoia 15.1.
