search finding terms in outline view that are NOT in slides

I give a LOT of talks, and often want to find the most recent version of a particular argument or slide I've made. Unfortunately, for about a year now, this has become nearly impossible. Instead of just search the slides, search pulls up the outline view (which I anyway hate, I always use the navigator view) and it has text from some old slide that I'd used as the basis to write over e.g. to borrow structure, and may have no relevance whatsoever to the current slide content. This is basically a disaster. I both can't find things using search, AND when I try my view gets shifted into something I have to chase down menus to revert to a more usable view.
