local network blocks apps given access

Apps that have already been given permission to access the local network intermittently block traffic. It appears the temporary solution is to turn off the apps permission in local network, and then to turn it back on.

Why? Does anyone have a permanent solution?

I did not migrate anything, I set up the new m4 mac mini manually, piece by piece. Local network affects more applications than you may realize, and Sequoia 15.1 is what added them to the local network (not me), so Mac OS thinks its important. Again, the new m4 was set up with a new user, no migration used. Yeah, no etrecheck. I guess I'll just wait till enough other people complain that is fixed. I do appreciate the input but I'm not being paid by Apple to help them fix their OS.

I have a NAS (used for homepage website/server) and an NVR (separate from NAS) on the local network, so "local network" access is necessary for me. Dragging the apps from application folder to desktop and back only works till I restart the computer (same as turn it off, turn it on - very microsofty fix). Again, same issue on brand new M4 mac mini with no migration used. I guess I must be one of the few that actually turns their computer off at the end of the day.

I'm talking about almost all of my apps, including but not limited to Reolink (from app store), Firefox (the browser I'm using right now and plain downloaded from their site). I give them permission at System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network - turn it on, turn it off. I am not using any firewall (third party) else turn it on, turn it off probably wouldn't work.

So this is now occurring on my new m4 mac mini. Same as on my older mac. As a note, I do turn my machine off at night (even though Apple has designed the m4 not to be turned off, thus not being as green as they want us to believe). I'll try your suggested workaround, but why should I need to do it on a brand new m4 mac mini with apps that use Apple's installation process (and on my older machine worked for years without issue)?

First, if you have some problem, and you migrate everything from one mac to another, the problem usually comes along.

Second, access to "local network" is not necessary for most any applications. It certainly is not needed for browsers. Most people have an empty list of applications there.

Create a new user, and test. Does it show the same problem? If it does, then this is probably due to some party modification (system extension, agent, daemon). If not, then it is something specific within your usual account.

Please do tell us which is the case.

In order for us to try and figure out what is causing you trouble, we need to know more. Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.
