iPad m3 Sonoma 14.x screen capture freezes on last selection

m3 Sonoma 14.x-- screen capture not working right. cannot escape to close to back out. next time i open to use screen capture it has the same selected square, no ability to change, and all rest of screen and external monitor turns dark. cannot close or cancel. If i hit the enter key, it captures the stuck selection square opens an email and posts it in the email(??!) as well as opening anothe window in Chrome. Go figure. is this a bug or is there something set somewhere. to repeat a function?
