Trying to connect Apogee one to 2016 Imac

Hope everyone is having a good day. I am trying to connect an audio interface (Apogee one) to a brand new iMac 2016. I followed GarageBand help on how to connect an electric guitar with an audio interface and I can't hear anything through the speakers or my headphones. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.
