Airpods Max won't connect

My Airpods Max started disconnecting themselves. Now every time I try to use them they disconnect by themselves. I've tied resetting, I've tried pairing them again, but it always takes about 20 minutes to get them to actually pair again and it's a very long and frustrating process. And even when they do connect, they still disconnect by themselves, in the midst of using them. I've tried everything. Are they just fried? Should I get new ones?
