Have the photos been shared with you in Messages? If "Shared with you" has become enabled in the Settings > Messages after the update, Photos will be showing you the shared photos automatically in the library, in a separate "Shared with you" section. Use Shared with You on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Never shared in msgs or in email or any social media platforms
