account no longer valid

I have what used to be called an "iTunes Id" which was mail@student.gsu.edu. Obviously the email address is no longer valid, and I have mail@icloud.com as my primary iCloud ID now. All the apps and music I purchased with the old iTunesID are not available because whenever I try to verify that old ID, I get a message saying either that it is locked for security reasons, or no longer valid when I try to unlock it.

The old email address does not need to be valid in order for it to be used as an Apple ID. The account will be locked if the wrong password for that Apple ID was entered incorrectly too many times. Having access to that email address does make it easier to reset the password, but there are other ways you can do that and you may need to use Account Recovery.

After you gain access to that account again, you can then change the email address of that Apple ID to a new one.

How long has it been since you used the account? Legal - iCloud - Apple

VII. B "In addition, Apple may terminate your Account upon 30 days’ prior notice via email to the address associated with your Account if (a) your Account has been inactive for one (1) year; or (b) there is a general discontinuance of the Service or any part thereof."

If you see the message below, or similar "inactive" messages:

- "Inactive" Apple ID/Account

- "Verification Failed. This Apple ID is not active."

you might be able to request access to your account by tapping Request Access right from the alert. If that does not work, this link (versus one taking you to the general support page) is the most direct way to get to the people helping you with this —> https://getsupport.apple.com/?PGF=PGF63005&category_id=SC0245&symptom_id=23626
