Hotmail password not accepted on iMac.

Just on your Mac. You can try the app-specific password as suggested above, but if that doesn't work:

Do the following after logging on to your account at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/microsoft-account-security-info-verification-codes-bf2505ca-cae5-c5b4-77d1-69d3343a5452

• enable two factor authentication, then
• obtain an app-specific password

For assistance with the above contact Microsoft or post to their community https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us

Once done, change the Apple mail password on your Mac to the app-specific one, should fix.

Are you able to log in without issues if you use a web browser and go to Hotmail that way? If so, try removing the account from Mail and re-adding it.
