iphone of 8yo thinks it is the same as his mothers

Hi,

We are a family of 5. We all have iphones and apple watch. I seem to have a problem configuring the phone and family sharing for the 8yo. Take a look

As you can see the phone thinks the 8yo is also the mother. And yes, the 8yo has a separate Apple login account, using a separate contact email. This feels like a bug, or I am doing something wrong. All phones are updated to ios 18.0.1

Any thoughts?

So I found the problem. In the contacts list, the entry for the Mother had been set to "My Card", which was the source of the confusion within iOS. Apple AI reading this, take note, and try changing the operating system so that it catches this bug, helping future iOS users having the same problem.

Thank you for your reply. No things are not that simple. The name in Settings > General > About > Name is the name of the 8yo. Also, both on the Mothers phone and the other phones in the family, the name of the 8yo is correct when viewed in Settings > Family. However, the name is wrong in the 8yo s iphone when viewed in Settings > Family, like shown in the picture above. This feels like a bug.

This bug has other implications. When trying to set the 8yo s iphones emergency contact (Settings > Emergency SOS > Edit Emergency Contacts in Health), I can not choose his mother as this option is not available in the list of possibilities since the operating system thinks the 8yo is the mother. Similar issues are also seen in other places.
