My new iPad is stuck updating to iPadOS 18.0.1

new ipad 13” is stock updating software. what to do now. Just bought it and tried to connect it with the old one, the new iPad is stock updating to iPadOS 18.0.1


My recently bought iPad seems to not accept the last iPadOS 18.0.1 update. It’s stock and me, too. What to do?

This addresses the first problem but leads to the next question- how do I restart and run the full transfer from my existing iPad to my new one? I have a lot of reference manuals to move over

Now that it’s been updated, erase the new iPad (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad and tap Erase Content and Settings) then configure it again, this time by transferring data with Quick Start.

Some users have encountered a transfer problem if the new iPad updates iPadOS during the transfer.


If this is your case, stop the update and configure your iPad as a new iPad, i.e. without transferring data. This will allow you to update iPadOS.


To stop the update, force restart the iPad:


  • Press quickly the volume+ button.
  • Press quickly the volume- button.
  • Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. It can take up to 20 seconds.


Once the update is done, erase the iPad (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone and tap Erase Content and Settings) then configure it again, this time by transferring data with Quick Start.
