The developer is a long time volunteer here. He might even show up to answer your question directly. 😎

Don't count on it. Stalker is only here to harass and stalk. You can answer his questions all day long and he'll just be back in a week, or month, or a decade, with the exact has questions to stalk and harass.

If one does a General Search on the Internet, you will come across those who may purport it as malware

This is often seen on some Social Media Websites where they are renown in spreading mis-information or dis-information or outright wrong information

Part 1 of 2

At one time there was an  Etrecheck Application available on the Apple Apps Store.

Due to certain constrains place upon the Developer by APPLE, the developer chose to remove it from the Store and make is available Directly from them.

This specific application is well known,  on these Forums,  as a Go To for trouble shooting and avoiding all the question / answer and question / answer to finally get the issue pinned down.

It is also known and reported by Reliable Sources that,  sometimes APPLE SUPPORT has invoked using this same Developer Distributed Version of Etrecheck application to trouble shot computer issues

Part 2 of 2

Download the Application Etrecheck  ( External Link ) directly from the Developer.

The Application is Not a " Silver Bullet "  and is  only a tool to examine the Hardware / Software used on this computer

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer Hardware / Software used on this computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

I don’t believe a software source from a defunct company can be considered reliable. It may now contain viruses. It’s not available on the App Store - so who is responsible for the source file?

Ah, you ARE the stalker etresoft claims you are. Thanks for confirming it. And you don’t even know what a virus is either.

You can have opinions, but you don't get to make up your own facts.

  1. The maker/developer of EtreCheck is not out of business.
  2. It does not contain malware when acquired directly from the vendor. The developer has no control over what garbage other sites add to a download for the app.
  3. It's not in the App Store, because like many other titles, in order to work as intended, it cannot pass Apple's App Store rules. The same applies to Norton AV or 360, Avast, almost the entire lineup of Adobe software. And more.
  4. etresoft is responsible for the source code. It's his app, so it's his code. And no, he is under absolutely no obligation to make it public. No more so than Apple would give you even just one snippet of the code for macOS. Or Adobe making anything of Photoshop public. Or - well - literally millions of other software titles.

You are free to believe whatever you want, but it really makes no difference here. As you can see, you have been called out already and are wrong. If you have a problem with your computer, take it to the Apple Store,, or simply live with the problems. EtreCheck successfully identifies many potential problems with your computer that could take 2 months of back and forth getting a users configuration details. Issues would go unresolved for those users, where here they have found the solution with a single post of the report.

I do believe you need help, but don't think you will find it here.

If I may pick up on the contention of Viruses

It is good to be aware of Bad Actor Software that purports to be safe

But Viruses ?

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that cannot be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

There is Adware & Malware which will affect the computer and is generally downloaded from “ Shady “ Websites or Developers who Inject this software into the download.

From a well written User Tip from @ Kurt Lang 👍 😎

If so, I can understand your concern.

Most developers do not have a storefront, so I would not be concerned at all. If an app developer no longer pays for a server to host the website, then you can be assured that they have closed.
