locked out of new iMac
While transmitting data from old to new machine, I shut both machines down and now locked of of new machine.
iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13
Please define "locked out".

Did you use WiFi? The most reliable method of using Migration Assistant is to connect the old Macs Time Machine External Hard Disk to the new machine and launch MA.
