Battery Drain and IOS 17.7

Anyone having increased battery drain with IOS 17.7 update? I had problems with the previous update. Really wish I hadn't gone to 17 at all.

After upgrading to iOS 17.7, my iPhone's battery life went in the toilet. I discovered that my iMessages were being backed up on iCloud, which I never would have set up. I have no time limits for deletion, so that was a LOT of data! Now I've turned that "feature" off, but it told me it would not remove my iMessage data from iCloud for an entire month. There is no option for immediate deletion. Why would Apple want to analyze my texts? What other reason would there be for this? Oh yeah, to sell additional storage! That is how I discovered why my battery kept dying!

Battery life improved slightly after I turned off iMessage storage on iCloud, but I am still having to charge on the daily. Yesterday I discovered the new "Standby" feature and turned that off. That should not affect the battery...

Seems like each time I upgrade to the latest iOS, I must go through all my phone settings and turn off new "features" that affect battery life. I'd prefer it if Apple would just tell me about the new features without automatically implementing them.

I see the phone companies are giving away the iPhone 16 units. I can't WAIT to see how all the new AI features will drain batteries. Better get a charging bank!
