Is your scanner an all in one printer that is AirPrint compatible?
My HP All in One is an AirPrint printer/scanner is added using AirPrint and can scan using the Image Capture program as long as the Firewall is shut off. There are no HP drivers needed for the printer when using AirPrint. HP doesn't even have Mac OS 15 compatibility for my printer and is always late to the game even though they have had OS 15 for 4 months to update their drivers.
I also believe the issue is with Apple. My wife has a MacBook air that she hasn't updated and it still scans. I can still print. Scanning seems to be the only function lost.
I read through this thread again and fixed my problem. The firewall change did not work. I did go to privacy & security ==> local network and toggle on two items that were turned off. HP Scanner 3 and HP Device Monitor. I am not sure which one fixed the issue. I will mess around with it later. I hope this helps.
Go to > System Settings > Network > Firewall, and shut it off.
The firewall is only useful if you have several computers networked together where someone else may be able to have unauthorized access to one of those computers. A computer behind a router is already protected from the internet, so you are not making your computer less secure. The firewall is off by default and is only on if you had previously turned it on with the current OS version or a previous one.
My HP Printer / Scanner will print after the Sequoia upgrade on my Mac, but it will not scan.
Note: the very same machine still prints just fine. It uses a wireless connection.
After reading comments, I went to Settings/Privacy/Local Network and found both HP Scanner 3 and HP Easy Scan were already active. Still, I toggled them off and on. I also checked and insured my Firewall was off.
Then I rebooted the computer.
Now the HP Easy Scan software "finds" the scanner, detects the page in the feeder and actually feeds the paper though the scanner. Solved, I thought! But the software freezes and never generates an image.
Another thread recommended switching to the HP Smart app. I downloaded it and when opening, it simply pops a blank white box with a printer icon on it. All features are greyed out in the menus so this app is even less responsive.
Privacy& Security>Local Network. See if it has access to your Local Network. Alsi it could also be a bug in the Firewall that might be blocking it.
Have you checked their web site for a new driver ?
The HP support desk claims it’s a problem with Sequoia
tried this; it didn't work
Toggle on HP Scanner 3. HP Device Monitor was the other one that was off. Problem solved for me.
