⅔ of the data from my journal just disappeared. I use Pages on mt iPad and it is automatically backed up to iCloud. iCloud have deleted the data and claim it is not able to be recovered. Is there a way of finding my lost data?

First of all, Apple's iCloud is not a backup service, but rather one of storage convenience. Apple's iCloud does provide a deleted file recovery service once you have signed into your iCloud account. However, this is a sliding 30-day window to do so and after that timeframe, the file is lost without proper backup elsewhere.
