iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

Bought two new iPhone 16 Plus. Did update to iOS 18.0.1. When one phone was turned off and charged overnight, it would not turn on this morning. So far I am trying the force restart multiple times and I have plugged it into a different charger no beeps. Also I plugged it into my MacBook and no beep and not showing up on Finder. This is bad. This has never happened with multiple iPhones over the last several years. Phone $1000 and it does not work after a few days. Ugh. Afraid to shut down the other phone and fear that it will also not be able to be turned down.

This just happened to me too. I got the iPhone 16 Pro Max about 2 months ago. First time this has ever happened to an iPhone I own. Really scary. Thought the phone had died. It took about 10 attempts at force restart for the apple to show on the screen. Hopefully it's a software issue and they solve it on the next iOS update.

Sorry for not getting things right on my first attempt 100% of the time. While it’s true any computer/smartphone can crash at any given time, it’s very suspicious that it has happened to at least 1,400 people with the iPhone 16. I’m glad I got my phone back to life and really hope it doesn’t happen again. But if it does, it will surely only take me 9 attempts next time

No, I consider it a problem when it happens to several devices instead of just a handful of people, even if it’s just a tiny percentage of the total (as far as we know). It is strange to me that so many people on this thread have had many iPhones and never had it happen before, just with the 16. Why is it so difficult to accept that there might be a problem with this generation of iPhone? People here get so defensive and attack the buyer (who has paid hundreds to over a thousand dollars for this device and is justifiably worried when something like this happens for the first time and on top of that sees that so many other people are having the same issue with the same model). And just as we cannot be sure whether it has happened to the 1,400 people that have hit the ‘me too’ button, we do not know how many people out there have had this problem and haven’t shared it here.

I guess people are just looking for whatever reason to fight and belittle others on the internet, instead of focusing on how to fix problems and improve future products for consumers. Have a great day

This has been happening with my iPhone 16 Pro Max for about a month now, once or twice every week or so. I have called Apple support and they tested the phone to no avail and no answers. I was told I could get a Express Replacement since my iPhone was still under warranty, but I would have to still pay for said replacement at a reduced rate. Uh, no!

From all the people here with the same issue, this is another big problem that Apple is ignoring. How many people with this same issue does it take for Apple to address this, if at all?! It's been suggested that we leave the phone powered up overnight while charging. That might fix the issue by putting a band aid on it and it would probably work, but you should be able to turn off your phone/computer when you need to without the nagging doubt that it won't power up again the next morning after charging and having to do a Forced Restart and pray that it will work!

And how many times will this issue pop up and be cured with a Force Restart, will work, before the phone completely bricks, especially when said phone's warranty has expired and now you have a very expensive paperweight?

Ah, for myself, the solution is to nurse this iPhone until the iPhone 17 Line drops this coming September and take another chance on a new device once again. Apple is really no help and the Limited Warranty is really Limited. I would suggest that even the extended warranty plan is full of holes and really not worth the expense it costs too, once you read all the fine print.

I am really old it seems and today even moving to another platform does not guarantee you will be problem free any more. Quality Control and Reliability are things of the past now. Ugh!

Hi. I had the same experience today. Was very Hassled as the iPhone 16 pro 1 TB is a usd 2000 phone.

Went to the Apple store and the technician fixed it in 30 seconds. Seems the iPhone 16 has a different hard reboot process.

Sharing the same below for all

Hard reboot is first press the volume up button on the left side once only, then press the volume down button below it once only and then keep holding the power button till the apple logo shows up.

Best wishes to all and hope you never have to use it but if you do keep this thread.

Well, no, it is the same reboot process for all iPhones released after the iPhone 7; meaning the iPhone 8, all SE models, and all Face ID iPhones.

Bought this iPhone less than a month ago, i woke up this morning and the phone is turned off. I had to try to reset for an hour and it finally came back on thanks to this community. This is ridiculous it is a $1000 brand new phone , with this much factory issue. What are apple makers doing? People could be in a life of death situation and the phone would just stop working. They need to take accountability for this situation - how are you charging an arm and leg for a phone and making a terrible phone.

How are you turning it on? Holding the SIDE button for 15-30 seconds, as designed?

Why are you turning it off overnight? If it is just to charge it, that practice will actually reduce the useful life of the battery over time.

I hope you’re doing well. I’m writing to ask for your help with something. I recently updated my iPhone 16, and now it won’t turn on. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing seems to work. I’m really hoping you can help me out. I’d really appreciate it. Thanks a bunch!

Same thing just happened to me and I have only had my iPhone Pro Max for a week. I used the up down volume and power button method and now it started up. The phone was also prompting me to install the latest update so perhaps that had something to do with it. I did plug it in and shut it down overnight but I have done that before and have not had this issue. Sounds like a bug that needs to be addressed.
