My reference was in context to his post. I’m sorry. I could have been more specific. His comment was it was off, charging, difficult to startup again. In the context, shutting off the device while charging, may cause difficulty turning the device on.

That's a bold claim, which you simply can't substantiate. No, they don't ALL have it. My IP 16 Pro Max, nor our 16 Pro has shut down unexpectedly. Never. Not once.

I don't understhand however, why people are powering their phone off at night while charging? It makes no sense. When you charge your phone at night, connected to Wifi, it also backs up as it was designed to do. Powering it off, means it's not automatically backing up. There is just no need to power them off.

To test my phone however, I did for a few nights put it on its charger, then powered it off and every morning, it powered on as expected. I won't continue doing this as it isn't how Apple intended us to use our phones. So I'm not disturbed at night, I have a sleep focus on, so my phone doesn't disturb me. But it charges as expected and it backs up as expected.

Genius on front door took about 60 seconds to fire up my 3 day old iPhone 16.

Says she pressed volume, volume,power in quick succession and it started.

Apparently they "glitch out".

Not sure what order of volume buttons was pressed first.

Personally i dont believe it was just that since right before she did this she had the dead phone right next to the apple store one and pushed a few things right before it started.

Im sure i would of accidently pressed those three buttons in that order in the dozens of times i tried to get it started.

I just got a new iphone 16 pro and it wont turn on - I've tried all tricks recommended online, including charging the phone, pushing the volume buttons one by one and then holding the lock button but none of it works. Can someone please help or/and advise on what I should do because I am travelling in South America and I am completely helpless without my phone, I can't even access my bank account!!

Where did you buy your iPhone? So, you bought the device and immediately left on a major trip without checking your equipment?

How are you charging the iPHone?n iPhones don’t come with chargers but they do come with charging cables. what are you using for a charger? How reliable is your powered source? I’ve traveled in less developed parts of the world and the country turns off the power grid at night. How are you charging your iphone?

In our experience just keep trying. Up, down volume and then hold the power button a really long time. Ours took longer than 30 seconds. We have 2 iPhones 16 and both have done this numerous times u til we took the advice not to turn it off. We use focus, do not disturb with the calls we want to come through in emergency.

just keep trying the above method. It made zero difference for us to power it on while plugged in and it’s not the charger as some have suggested. It’s the PHONE and we are waiting for a permanent fix. Good luck. One day mine took 3 hrs of intermittently trying to get it on. Then don’t turn it off at night while charging or it’s, here we go again!

Have you talked to Apple Support team via chat, phone call, in person at Apple Retail Store, social media? If you don’t give them the opportunity to inspect and diagnose the iPhone, don’t expect a warranty claim to get to far.

Same story with my new iPhone 16. It has to be a flaw by Apple and IMHO, they should give us all some sort of credit so that we can turn these in earlier than we ordinarily would. This is beyond exasperating

I would not turn off my phone when charging now, since my iPhone 16+ was updated to iOS 18.2 when it first happened. And I did charge it before while the phone was turned off a few times no issue, and then the issue happened in December. I would also worry about updating the phone while on a full charge - since it likely will shut off the power during the update process.

I Phone16 turn on problems.Just to record that my wife (too) came to me with a problem turning on her phone. I found the above post very helpful. I managed to get it to turn on after pushing the vol up then vol down then the power button in quick succession. Holding the power button down for at least 10 seconds.

After 3 attempts the “apple” appeared on the screen. Voila!

I just bought the 16 max pro less than 3 weeks ago and I turned it on, and they got it working.

Then again, I turned it on again, same problem.

Twice, in less than 3 weeks!

Any advice?

The method you used which worked IS a Forced Restart. I'm curious why you choose to power the phone off while charging? I realize it shouldn't have an issue turning back on in the morning, but there really is no reason to power the phone off while charging. In fact, it SHOULD remain on, connected to Wifi, so your phone will backup to iCloud at night. It's best practice to charge it at night, powered on, every night with Optimized Battery Charging enabled (Settings > Battery > battery Health > Optimized Battery Charging).

As I stated in the post: I read through the thread and used the process that had been described in the thread, which didn't work for me and clearly was not working for many others who have posted to this thread. I found a better description of the forced restart process and shared it for the benefit of others who might come across this thread while searching for a solution to the problem.

I decided to turn the phone off last night because I turned it off. It has a rather large, prominent button whose purpose is to allow the operator to turn it on and off, and the device is designed to be turned on and off. It is not designed, nor intended, to be left on all the time.

Frankly, whether or not one SHOULD keep it on for the purpose of it backing up at night is wholly irrelevant to the problem being discussed in this thread. It is an electronic device and should be fully capable of being turned on and off without an issue.

I just bought my phone in November and I am experiencing this issue. I have tried 3 different wireless chargers and my iPhone charger. None seem to be charging my phone or at least that what it seems like since it isn't turning on. I have tried to force restart it several times and nothing. This is frustrating since I have barely had this phone for 2 months and it isn't cheap.
