My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

Bought two new iPhone 16 Plus. Did update to iOS 18.0.1. When one phone was turned off and charged overnight, it would not turn on this morning. So far I am trying the force restart multiple times and I have plugged it into a different charger no beeps. Also I plugged it into my MacBook and no beep and not showing up on Finder. This is bad. This has never happened with multiple iPhones over the last several years. Phone $1000 and it does not work after a few days. Ugh. Afraid to shut down the other phone and fear that it will also not be able to be turned down.
FIRST, do you hold the Side button for up to 30 seconds to turn it on? If that doesn’t work:

The operative word here is QUICKLY; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky. If done correctly this will always work unless the phone has a hardware problem.
Looks like this is an issue when phone charges to 100%. If I set it to 80% it seems to work but 90 or 100% it won’t open without reset. Pretty ridiculous.
Doubt it is a charger issue (although I think apple is hoping it is), same with my Apple MagSafe.
After I was able to turn my phone on, I updated to 18.0.1 and reduced battery charging to 90%. So far so good.
My daughter is also having the same issue. This started after she updated to 18.0.1. This is extremely frustrating and unacceptable for a phone that costs $1,000.
It's definitely random. My husband's 16 pro and both my daughter's 16 are fine. It's only my 16 plus that is having an issue. I use the usb-c it came with and upgraded to 18.0.1. Very frustrating.
Thank you all you previous commenters. I kept the hard restart going until my phone turned on. Then ran around saying “ it’s not my fault”. This is bonkers.
Diagnostics show nothing. Apple help chat has nothing to help you. This is known problem, which they are doing nothing about.

I’ve seen your reply and it’s brilliant that it eventually turned on, but it’s so worrying when it happens, I just wish Apple would fix this problem from happening in the first place
Nope I used side by side and my phone doesn’t start…
I had exactly the same issue. I found this video that solved the issue. I had to repeat that cycle several times and it worked for me.

The hard reset and it may take several times over and over to power on until Apple fixes it!
It happened to me the first time my phone died. Usually I keep my phone charged.
