iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

Bought two new iPhone 16 Plus. Did update to iOS 18.0.1. When one phone was turned off and charged overnight, it would not turn on this morning. So far I am trying the force restart multiple times and I have plugged it into a different charger no beeps. Also I plugged it into my MacBook and no beep and not showing up on Finder. This is bad. This has never happened with multiple iPhones over the last several years. Phone $1000 and it does not work after a few days. Ugh. Afraid to shut down the other phone and fear that it will also not be able to be turned down.

Continued to check out every possibility such as a failed screen. Tried ringing and Find My. Tried several times with different chargers and tried tapping on the screen. And I tried a normal start several times holding the button for a long time then I tried several force starts as per Apple Support (quick press, volume up, quick press, volume down, and then pressing start for a long time). Repeated regular starts and force starts about 20 times over a period of four hours. Gave up then started a help ticket at T-Mobile. An hour later I tried the regular starts and force starts again in desperation. Golly gee the Apple logo came on! I had installed an update to 18.0.1 the day before then the phone was shut off for the evening. We have decided to not turn off this phone nor a second iPhone 16 until we get word that this hardware defect/ software bug has been fixed. Fortunately, I am retired so I feel really sorry if this happens to any employed person because it is a huge waste of time.

Same here. 16 pro max wire charged overnight. Dead as can be. Nothing worked to resuscitate the phone. Made an appoint with the Genius Bar as a final resort.

I also have the iPhone 16. Samen thing happened twice, but I managed to get resuscitatie it through the DFU-procedure.

I have bought several iPhones throughout the years, but this never happened to me before.

Expanding problem that Apple is trying to avoid acting on…since it is random it seems more and more like hardware related. Possibly batteries that are defective?? Looks like I better get apple+ coverage … never thought I would need it but this is not a good situation!

One can do the force start and yes, it eventually turns on. Sometimes after 2-3 tries and sometimes after 40. The point is, WHY should we have to go through this time consuming and frustrating endeavor? Apple Store, the first time I went in a month ago, acted as though they didn’t know this was a problem. They have all been aware of this since the iPhone 16 was released. Also according to the numerous posts, it is all types of 16 and it doesn’t matter how one transferred data from previous phone or if it’s plugged in to charger or not, they still have this problem if one powers off their phone. Not every time, but one time is too many and Apple needs to fix it or recall these phones! Stop selling them.

I tried everything from here. My 2 sons work at T-mobile "Morning dad, the overheating is normal because it’s a new phone. Try this, Press volume up button and press volume down button and then hold the power button for 2 mins" This worked for me. 2 LONG minutes hold. I hope it helps you too.

Follow the directions in this and for the last step, KEEP HOLDING the side power button for however long it takes for the Apple Logo to appear --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support (CA)

Also you really don't need to power off an iPhone. I can't remember the last time I completely shut down my iPhone. It doesn't provide any tangible benefit. You should charge your iPhone when you go to bed with it powered on, connected to Wifi, with Optimized Battery Charging enabled and iCloud backup turned on. It's the best way to preserve your iPhone.

Apple itself recommends Turning your phone off at night and restarting in AM as a way to get rid of any programs meant to take over your phone.

No, Apple does NOT recommend turning your phone off at night and restarting in the AM. Apple has NEVER made such a recommendation. EVER. Apple designed iPhone to be charged at night, ALL NIGHT, with Wifi on, so it will backup at night, every night. This is one reason why they made Optimized Charging an option, which is highly recommended. If someone told you Apple recommends what you suggest, they were flatly wrong.

Please post where Apple has ever made such a recommendation. Hint: You won't find one published by Apple anywhere. Feel free to go through all of these documents from Apple which speak to when to charge your phone and note that Apple NEVER suggests powering your phone down at night:

I hope you’re doing well. I’m writing to ask for your help with something. I recently updated my iPhone 16, and now it won’t turn on. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing seems to work. I’m really hoping you can help me out. I’d really appreciate it. Thanks a bunch!
  • Press and quickly release VOLUME UP

     then

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN

     then

  • Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds), ignoring "slide to power off" if it appears

The operative word here is QUICKLY for the first two buttons; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky. If done correctly this will always work unless the phone has a hardware problem.

As the one who started this thread, I am wondering if those who are having the problem set up their iPhone 16's using the cloud versus the side by side method. I am not having the issue that my wife is having and she used the cloud backup to set up her phone, while I did the side by side. There is an article about other issues with the new phones that may be related to the cloud setup, though the phones not starting was not one of those mentioned.

Currently dealing with the same issue. I woke up and my phone will not turn on. I've tried several things. The logo will pop up, then disappear and will just keep doing that. I've tried plugging it in and that also does not work. Just bought this phone brand new last week. I've got a busy day and no phone. writing this from my MacBook. smh.

This happened to my iPhone 16 pro today, still not on. The apple logo comes up and then goes right back to off. I have had this phone a week, this is ridiculous. A force restart is not working either, I did have it charging over night as well and tried charging it again but still nothing. Apple…you need to get it together!
