iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

Bought two new iPhone 16 Plus. Did update to iOS 18.0.1. When one phone was turned off and charged overnight, it would not turn on this morning. So far I am trying the force restart multiple times and I have plugged it into a different charger no beeps. Also I plugged it into my MacBook and no beep and not showing up on Finder. This is bad. This has never happened with multiple iPhones over the last several years. Phone $1000 and it does not work after a few days. Ugh. Afraid to shut down the other phone and fear that it will also not be able to be turned down.

Same thing just happened to me today - the iPhone 16 PRO won't switch on no matter how long I keep the right button pressed - The battery was probably around 80% when it happened - Anyone at APPLE can pick this up? Thank God I had a space old iPhone 12 Pro in my bag which I am now using but this is extremely disappointing for a device worth 1,500 USD!

You need to Force Restart your iPhone. Just holding the side button won't turn it back on. Follow these directions and for the final step, KEEP HOLDING the side power button for however long it takes for the Apple Logo to appear --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support (CA)

You said you did a Forced Restart. Read this and for the final step, which is to hold the side power button, REALLY HOLD the side power button for however long it takes for the Apple Logo to appear. It could take 30 seconds or longer.

Are you powering the phone off to charge it? It is NOT necessary to power off your phone to charge it. It actually goes against the best advice. Charge your phone, when you sleep, with Optimized Charging turned on and your phone connected to Wifi so it will charge for the next day and backup to iCloud every night.

You SHOULD charge it overnight, with Automatic iCloud Backup enabled, as well as either Optimized Charging or 80% limit enabled. Doing so will extend the life of the battery.

It wasn’t charging that caused the iOS crash. While it is called an iPhone, it is actually a very powerful pocket-sized computer that can incidentally make phone calls. And like all computers, it will crash occasionally, and that’s what happened. To minimize the probability of that happening it may pay to restart it occasionally→Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

HINT: Another way to restart is to say; “Hey Siri, restart this iPhone"

There is absolutely no technical reason to turn your iPhone off at night, and doing so will result in expedited battery degradation. When you leave it on and plugged in, the overnight processes on the phone will be powered the external charger rather than the battery, thus reducing the number of charge cycles required to maintain the battery.

The absolute best way to get maximum use on a charge, as well as slow the decline of battery capacity long term is to enable Optimized Battery Charging (Settings/Battery/Battery Health) and charge the device overnight, every night. The battery will fast charge to 80%, then pause. During the nighttime pause the phone will use mains power instead of battery power, allowing the battery to “rest”, and thus reducing the need to charge the battery quite as often. The phone will resume charging to reach 100% when you are ready to use your phone; it will “learn” your usage pattern. If you enable iCloud Backup (Settings/[your name]/iCloud - iCloud Backup) the phone will back up overnight also, assuring that you can never lose more than the current day’s updates. i had the same problem this morning. ( Iphone 16 pro)

  1. had charged it overnight, powered off .
  2. with a 25w samsung charger.

In the morning the phone was dead.

Solution : voice up voice down and FOR about 25 SECONDS power on. Dont be afraid for more, it will power on.

Problem solved.

As a first time apple user I'm wondering if it's a warning for some hardware error or some hardware malfunction. Does anyone have an answer to this question?

Everyone is most certainly not having this issue. Force Restart your iPhone, which will likely solve this:

  • Press and quickly release the volume up button
  • Then immediately press and release the volume down button
  • Then immediately press and KEEP HOLDING the side power button. KEEP HOLDING it past the swipe to power off and KEEP HOLDING it until the screen goes dark and KEEP HOLDING it until you see the Apple Log, then let go. This stage can 15 - 20 seconds so don't let go until you see the Apple Logo

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME UP

     then

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN

     then

  • Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds), ignoring "slide to power off" if it appears

The operative word here is QUICKLY; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky. If done correctly this will always work unless the phone has a hardware problem.

The "Up, Down, Side" instructions require some precision:

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME UP

     then

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN

     then

  • Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds), ignoring "slide to power off" if it appears

You didn’t need a computer; just force restart the iPhone:

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME UP

     then

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN

     then

  • Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds), ignoring "slide to power off" if it appears

The operative word here is QUICKLY for the first two buttons; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky. If done correctly this will always work unless the phone has a hardware problem.
